Commonly referred to as the "Double Double Queen", Angel Reese has lived up to her nickname leading Team USA to their most recent win in the FIBA Americup against Colombia. Team USA secured their spot in the semifinals of the 2023 FIBA Women's AmeriCup with a resounding victory, fueled by an outstanding double-double display from LSU standout Angel Reese.
During the quarterfinal game against Colombia, Reese showcased her exceptional skills on both offense and defense, amassing an impressive total of 13 points and 18 rebounds. Her remarkable rebounding display came incredibly close to matching the U.S. AmeriCup record, currently held by Aliyah Boston.
Right from the opening tip, Reese showcased her tenacity by engaging in a fierce battle for a rebound. Her relentless efforts on the glass set the tone for the entire game. Throughout the night, she showcased her shooting skills as well, attempting a tournament-high 14 shots and converting 35.7 percent of them. Additionally, Reese maintained her composure at the free-throw line, sinking all three of her attempts.
This remarkable performance marks Reese's second consecutive double-double in the AmeriCup, mirroring her outstanding achievements in every game of the 2023 NCAA tournament. In the group-play victory over Cuba on July 5, Reese recorded 12 points and 14 rebounds, further solidifying her impact on the court.
Prior to the game, Reese acknowledged the attention her exceptional play has brought to the FIBA women's basketball tournament. Her remarkable performance in this year's competition follows her instrumental role in helping LSU secure a national title just a few months ago. With her incredible achievements, Reese has now earned a spot on Team USA, which will face the winner between Canada and Argentina in the highly anticipated semifinals.
