Angel Reese set a new WNBA record on Thursday, achieving her seventh straight double-double in a match against the Dallas Wings. This is the longest streak for a rookie ever recorded.
"It's super exciting for myself," Reese said in a postgame interview. "I try to give myself some grace and tell myself I'm doing a good job. But I have so much more to grow and I'm just excited to be in this league and excited to win some more."
In the first eight minutes of the game, Reese already had seven rebounds, six of which were defensive. Her performance on Thursday was remarkable, with a 7-for-13 score from the field. This success follows her record-breaking streak at LSU, where Reese registered an NCAA single-season record of 34 double-doubles during the 2022-23 season.
Reese surpassed the six-game double-double streaks set by Tina Charles in 2010 and Cindy Brown in 1998. Reese is also on track to break the Sky's single-season offensive rebounding record of 117, set by Sylvia Fowles in 2013. "I love Sylvia. She was a great person to me and a great mentor to me when I was at LSU," Reese said. "I know she is going to be super proud of me."
