In a thrilling match at Domo de la Feria in León, Guanajuato, Mexico, Angel Reese made her debut for Team USA and delivered an outstanding near double-double performance, helping her team secure a victory against a determined Venezuela squad. The final score stood at 80-54 in favor of the United States.

From the opening tip-off, it was evident that Team USA was determined to dominate the game. The American squad displayed an impressive defensive performance, holding Venezuela to a mere five points in the first quarter. Deja Kelly and Charisma Osborne led the offensive charge for Team USA, with support coming from four other players, allowing them to take a commanding 20-5 lead.

Venezuela fought hard, attempting 19 shots in the first quarter, but found it difficult to overcome the stifling defense of Team USA. The American team dominated the paint and controlled the boards, leaving their opponents struggling to find their rhythm.

The second quarter saw Janiah Barker step up for Team USA, contributing 7 points to their growing lead. Meanwhile, Rayah Marshall asserted her dominance on the boards, grabbing a total of 9 rebounds, 6 of which were on the defensive end.

At halftime, Daniela Wallen emerged as Venezuela's leading scorer. However, despite her efforts, Team USA's relentless defense kept Venezuela trailing with a substantial 50-16 deficit.

The defending AmeriCup champions, Venezuela, refused to back down in the second half. Displaying their offensive prowess, they scored 14 points in the third quarter and even outscored Team USA 24-14 in the final frame.

Nevertheless, the collective efforts of Rickea Jackson, Angel Reese, and Janiah Barker, all reaching double digits in scoring, proved too much for Venezuela to overcome. Eight members of Team USA contributed 6 or more points, demonstrating their depth and versatility. Despite Wallen's impressive 9-point performance in the second half and Aguehil Fajardo Girall's contribution of 10 points, Venezuela could not close the gap.

Rebounding played a crucial role in separating the two teams. Team USA dominated the boards, out-rebounding Venezuela 62-33. However, Venezuela showcased their tenacity by recording 11 steals and playing quick and aggressive defense. With Waleska Perez making key plays, they started to narrow the once 34-point deficit in the final quarter.

Team USA's efficient shooting, with a 47 percent field goal percentage, combined with their ability to secure 48 defensive rebounds and limit Venezuela's second chance points, ultimately sealed their victory. Despite Venezuela's spirited performance in the final minutes, Team USA's endurance and composure prevailed.

Angel Reese finished the game with an impressive stat line of 11 points and 9 rebounds, showcasing her immense talent in her debut for Team USA. Rickea Jackson added 11 points and 5 rebounds, while Rayah Marshall contributed 7 points and an astounding 14 rebounds.

For Venezuela, Daniela Wallen led the team in scoring with 14 points, accompanied by 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Aguehil Fajardo Girall added 10 points, and Waleska Perez made valuable contributions with 6 points and 7 assists.

This victory marks a promising start for Team USA in the 2023 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup, and with Angel Reese's impressive debut, the team is poised for continued success in the tournament.
